MUSIC LESSONS
(OFFERED ONLINE OR AT THE STUDIO)
Good for you for delving into the fantastic world of music! Here is what to expect in your lesson:
Voice: In your voice lesson you will learn proper technique, posture, breathwork, emotionality, tone, different stylings, projection and resonance. I use different concepts that I have learned over 2 decades be it: bel canto, functional voice training (a la Corneilius Reid), whole body movement, and listening acutely to my students while applying the best approach. Repertoire such as Classical, Jazz, Pop, Musical Theatre, and Folk Music from around the world can be studied. (For students 9 and up)
Functional Voice Training: Tired, Sore, Raspy or weak voice? If you are a singer, teacher, radio personality, voice-over artist, auctioneer, or anyone who uses their voice extensively in their profession and is having issues with your asset; functional voice training may be for you.
It is a pedagogical approach founded by the late New York voice instructor Corneilius Reid (1911-2008). Although, concepts of this appraoch will be used in voice lessons, specifically coming to Gracenote Studios for Functional Voice Training will focus exclusively on exercises, concepts and the rehabilitation of the vocal structure. I can personally attest to the amazing benefits of this pedagogy and the wonders it has done to my voice. I have trained and continue to train with an instructor who was personally taught by Reid and his protoge's. (For ages 18 and up)
Flute: In your flute lesson we will play a variety of music (Classical, Pop., Ballads, etc.) and also focus on breath, technique, posture, tone and performance skills. (For students 10 and up)
Piano: I use predominatly the Faber series for beginning students in the younger years, and then tend to follow RCM pieces up until Level 6, along with fun pop. songs, film songs or whatever my students would like to play. For adults, I use a variety of materials suited to a higher age group and ability. (For students 7 and up, Piano lessons are in 30 minute blocks only.)
